Report from Philadelphia

The weather impacted the size of the crowds, and some of the events, but nevertheless every aspect of the planned events came off on Oct 27th.  In addition to the early morning events throughout the region, the first major event in the Philadelphia area took place at 11:00 am in Camden, with a rally and concert indoors at the Walt Whitman Center on the Rutgers University Campus.   The Grand March across the Ben Franklin Bridge became a march of dedicated stalwarts, while the weather sent most of the 150 people at the Rally into Philadelphia by car or train.

Code Pink marches in demos around the country

CODEPINK marched in demonstrations around the country. Before the march, we held peace parties. On October 27, we created a pink block in the human chain for peace in Philadelphia, lay down on Market Street in San Francisco for a "Die-in", helped organize with local coalitions in Orlando, Florida, and brought our vibrant pink presence to rallies and marches, rain or shine.

Human chain for peace in Philadelphia

We had a human chain stretchng from the VA Hospital in West Philly all the way through Market St to the Constitution Center across from the Liberty Bell.  As we marched toward the Constitution Center, the members of the chan fell in behind us.
