Chicago

The October 27 Mobilization drew some 10-12,000 people into the streets of Chicago, and served as an important step forward for the peace and justice movements in the Midwest.

“We organized one of the largest, if not the largest, recent antiwar demonstrations of its kind in this town,” said Carl Davidson, Oct 27 Mobilization Project Director. “More important than the numbers themselves, we brought out substantial numbers of people for whom this was their first peace march, especially from the labor movement and the African American community, and from other communities as well. This was the most multinational, inter-generational and diverse crowd I have seen in a very long time. This was the main task we set for ourselves, and we succeeded.”
